Psychiatric providers, members, and supporters,

Below are two ways you can help expand the use of clozapine in critical populations, especially in incarcerated settings.

1) Sign & Share the Petition

Dr. Gill Honigfeld, aptly nicknamed “The Godfather of Clozapine,” has submitted a Citizen’s Petition to the FDA to grant a third official product label 'indication' for clozapine:  "Reduction in the Risk of Recurrent Aggressive Behavior in Individuals with Serious Mental Illness.” Please support this vital and necessary change by submitting a comment!

SMI conditions can cause aggressive behavior in otherwise peaceful individuals. Failing to treat these symptoms has led to tragic outcomes, criminal harm, and the mass incarceration of SMI individuals. Based on the evidence submitted, I strongly urge the FDA to add “Reduction in the Risk of Recurrent Aggressive Behavior in Individuals with Serious Mental Illness” as a third indication for clozapine.

Psychiatrists and clinicians: Please make a short comment on how important clozapine has been in reducing aggressive behaviors in your patients!

2) Support the Clinical Trial

The New York State Psychiatric Institute is recruiting patients for a nationwide clinical trial to study clozapine for the prevention of violence and aggression. This study is needed for FDA consideration to support this third treatment indication.

Do you know someone who is considering clozapine and is eligible to participate? The study is being conducted at multiple sites for another year. Individuals receive about $900 for their participation. And clozapine may transform their life!
